Major (retd) McKöena now primarily focuses his legal practice on Small Business Development, In-House Consulting and the McKöena Cannabis Practice Group that provides innovative and practical solutions to clients in the cannabis industry.
Major (retd) McKöena attended York University where he studied political science and mass communication. He later enrolled in Queens University Law School in 1995 and graduated with the Law class of ’98.
Major (retd) McKöena also enrolled in the International Business and Law program at Queens University International Study Centre at Herstmonceux Castle in England, UK and graduated with a certificate in International Business and Law (technology law business development).
Upon graduation from Queens Law, Major (retd) McKöena accepted and completed his legal articles with a major Bay Street law l in Toronto. During his legal articles, Major (retd) McKöena spend considerable emphasis on high technology law and business development transactions. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2000.
In July 2000, Major (retd) McKöena was retained as an in-house counsel with Ascom AG a technology design and development l in Switzerland. During his tenure at Ascom AG, Major (retd) McKöena worked on several Ascom’s applicable research and technology (AR&T)’s patents and trademarks with regards to internal re-organization of products & solutions offered to customers. Working closely with Ascom AR&T technology engineers involved in product & solutions development to define specific product content and IP related matters for licensing business.
Major (retd) McKöena also liaised with Ascom’s AR&T marketing department to devise Ascom’s 3G/UMTS IP business strategy and implementation in anticipation of the European deployment of 3G network operations and service in 2001. Major (retd) McKöena initiated the re-organization of Ascom AR&T global Internet presence through constructive media proposals that were aimed at making Ascom AR&T products more focused and effective to potential partners/customers.
Major (retd) McKöena has participated in several business developments training seminars, law seminars, information technology development & marketing conferences; including as a delegate and guest speaker at the 2000 Europe System on CHIP for a connected World held in Edinburgh, Scotland, Ascom AR&T 2001 & 2002 Conferences on Business Opportunities for UMTS held in Hoechenschwand, Germany.
